August 2019 Featured Product - Gaia BioFeel Eco Vibe

If you're like me, you've probably been working on reducing how much single use plastic you generate. You know, packing groceries in your own reusable bags, bringing travel mugs to the coffee shop in the morning, slapping straws out of the hands of passerby- you know, just doing our part.

It may seem harsh, but think of the turtles.

At the stores we're working on that too, starting with making the switch from plastic to paper bags, and encouraging the trend with our monthly BYOB (bring your own bag) sale.

So single use plastics are being reduced, reused, and recycled (high five, everyone!), but like… what about plastic that's gonna be around for a while?

When it's time to say goodbye to our stuff, a lot of it ends up in the landfill- meaning that there are going to be a lot of plastic sex toys kicking around for future archaeologists to dig up in a thousand years.

Enter Gaia, a new line of biodegradeable sex toys from Blush Novelties. This new line of toys is made from BioFeel, also known as PLA or polylactic acid. This firm material is a "bioplastic", or a non-petroleum plastic that is made from renewable resources- in this case corn starch. Bioplastics are safer to produce for both the workers and the environment than petroleum-based plastics.

Bioplastics are safer to produce for both the workers and the environment than petroleum-based plastics.

This body safe material has many common applications, from food and water containers to biomedical devices like screws and pins that biodegrade in the body after an injury heals. PLA is robust, and stands up to long term uses like plastic components in electronics, but when exposed to the elements will degrade safely in six months to two years.

Gaia BioFeel Eco Vibe
Little Shop of Pleasures

The BioFeel Eco Vibe is the first toy from this line that we have brought into our stores- it is a classic rocket vibrator, with a base that twists to adjust the level of vibration, and a slim, tapered body. It can be used with any kind of lubricant, and should be cleaned with a toy cleaner and water after each use, just like any other vibrator.

Turning the Eco Vibe on and off and adjusting the speed of vibration is done by twisting the dial at the base of the toy.

Unlike another vibrator, when the BioFeel Eco Vibe eventually wears down, as most electronics tend to do, pop out the batteries and toss it into the compost bin.

Thinking longer term and making choices that reduce the amount of plastic we throw away over our lifetime is… something. Saving a little bit of plastic from the landfill might not make the biggest difference in the fight to save the planet, but the more people turn to more environmentally friendly products and materials, the more companies will listen and start to create products that follow the trends of an increasingly conscientious consumerbase. So if you're like me, and maybe looking for another little way to contribute to the effort to keep our world from going all Mad Max on us, check out the BioFeel Eco Vibe the next time you’re in the market for a new toy.
